Piano tuning and repair has been a family tradition dating back to 1955 when my grandfather, Chuck Laursen started tuning pianos and became one of the well known Minnesota tuners for over 50 years. As time went on his son and my father, Steve Laursen followed in the family tradition and started his business in 1973 becoming the most requested tuner in Minnesota. I worked and tuned side by side with Steve for 15 years up until his retirement in 2022, when I started 3rd Generation Piano Service. A small tip of the hat to the ones before me that helped train, teach and inspire me to keep the family tradition alive.
We offer the best quality piano tuning at lower competitive prices
A stabilize tuning is done when the piano has not been tuned in some time or after a move or major environment change.
We can repair and rebuild every part of your piano. What cant be repaired in your home is brought to our shop and returned promptly.
After hours of use the touch and reaction of your piano can become slow or stiff and labored. Regulation is the art of re-calibrating and adjusting for felt loss and getting response and touch of your piano back to factory specifications. Grand action regulations range between 1200 and 1800 dollars.
Slow and sticky keys can have many causes, the most common being humidity change. Often keys can just be out of alignment or something very minor which a 3rd Generation technician can resolve while tuning for no cost. Sticking keys that do require a fee start at $15 dollars.
Voicing and shaping hammer heads is the art of either softening or hardening the heads back to factory standards or in some cases making the tone more enjoyable for the player. Over time with hours of playing the hammer heads harden from beating against the strings. In most cases we shape the heads and bring them back to the appropriate shape and remove and grooving left by the strings. after we have created the perfect canvas we then voice the hammers to achieve the ideal tone.
Piano strings can sometimes be repaired but are mostly replaced. Ones that can be repaired are priced on an individual basis. The ones that get replaced start at 170 for standard steel strings and custom wound bass strings start at 190 and can go up to 220 depending on length and diameter.
Most pedal repairs are minor and just require some quick adjustments. We take the time to inspect the pedal workings at every tuning we do so as to prevent unwanted service calls down the road.
Sometimes keys just wont go down, or wont come back up. Sometimes they do exactly what they are suppose to do but they don't make a sound, or they don't make the right sound. Usually the action is to blame for this and we can diagnose and fix most action issues on site. The repair price would be discussed at the visit to determine if the repair is something the customer wants to move forward with.
Humidity change is the number one reason pianos go out of tune. A pianos ideal humidity is between 38-42 percent. Damp Chaser brand climate control systems and the most trusted and used climate control system on the market. They keep you piano in the perfect humidity through out Minnesota's season changes.
